It is the only surviving Tower of 12 that surrounded the walls of the village, in defense of the access from the North. It also has an embattled, slits and small square Windows. The property retains layers of three different eras: a polygonal base, relative to the first Roman settlement, strengthened in opus incertum of Republican age and the tower built by the Caetani family.

The adjacent village of Carlton is a fascinating fusion of Roman and medieval structures in the fascinating discovery of Roman columns and capitals, memories of the narrow and crowded buildings, embedded arce of the tiny streets of the Castle, built to counter the invasions by sea. Natural defenses, made up of different levels, as well as the location of sighting and rapid communication given by the via Appia, allowed the village to sustain itself for centuries clasping steeped in history up to us.
