The monumental mausoleum is located at the entrance to the city of Formia,
coming from Itri to Formia and dates back to the Augustan age
The attribution of the sepulchre in Cicero is much discussed,
though the proximity of the site to where he built
one of its sumptuous villas and the imposing size of the structure,
meant to house the remains of a famous man, would support the thesis.

Also it was in his beloved city, the speaker, found a tragic death in 43 BC,
murdered at the hands of the killers of Anthony.
The sepulchral structure rises 24 metres and has a central plan.

Today there is a lining of the square base, in square blocks of limestone.
An imposing ring of stone cylindrical column, inside the cell burial chamber,
supports the structure, while the surrounding walls are the columbarium.

On the hill behind the tomb of Cicero,
You can still see the ruins of the tomb of his beloved daughter Tulliola, died in childbirth.
